We have chosen to pay our tribute to the original denomination with a Grande Champagne cognac 25 years of age. Its advanced age and the modesty of our structure imply that the quantities are limited, and that it can neither be bought everywhere, nor compete with low-cost products. The smooth, vanilla-like butterscotch character comes forth only after a couple of decades of ageing in casks of French oak, and is rarely found in ordinary XO’s. Thus, it is recognisable even without initiation. A naturally dark, amber colour sets the tone:Masculine notes of cigar-box, leather and walnut lead the way, well balanced against scents of marzipan, anis, orange and dried apricot. Lime-blossom, violet and dried rose create a pleasant overtone. On the palate, characteristics go from ripe fruits like peach and apricot with points of orange to figs and prunes. Beneath a veil of melted oak, the tongue is teased by nutmeg, vanilla and almonds. A long, complex aftertaste lingers on, and swirls of ripe grapes bring forth memories from the amber liquid’s remote youth. Our Grande Champagne XO is a powerful cognac, to be enjoyed preferably as a digestif, because is richness not only marks an end to, but also crowns, a feast.
